My controlled social media presence is very limited, because I tend to be pretty reserved and held back online. The only form of social media that i use would be Instagram and Snapchat, both that I keep private.
To network using social media means that you have the ability to meet new people seamlessly through online connection, with curated aspects that can connect people alike. It gives you a chance to meet someone new that you most likely otherwise wouldnt have had a chance to.
We are naturally motivated to participate in networked publics through wanting to be a part of something. For the most part, we enjoy feeling like we’re a part of a larger group, we like to fit in and its nice to be included. For this reason it makes sense that we are motivated to participate in order to not feel like you’re missing out.
Some of the risks & rewards of public communications are determined by what you would categorize as a risk or reward. My example of a risk would be that online you are exposed to many different people with uncertain intentions, meaning that you cannot be sure what people you haven’t met before if thay gain access to your information. A reward would pretty much be what i said before, the oppourtunity to meet people that you normally wouldnt have the chance to meet if it weren’t for online connections.
What is Digital Identity? digital identity is the product of what you curate, and put out onto the internet for others to see, in most cases someones digital identity focuses on the aspects of themselves that they want others to associate most with them. For example, some people have public work-related social media that displays a professional outlook for anyone to see, while maintaining a personal account for their friends and family to interact with. Someones personal appraoch to digital identity would affect their social media by potentially being more intimate and show more personality, while their professional approach would be more reserved and appealing to potential business. Digital identites converge in networked publics like a single post can reach friends, classmates, instructors, employers, and strangers all at once. This convergence can amplify the impact and visibility, but it can also create tension when different audiences have different expectations. The benefits of this convergence is the ability to present a multidimensional identity and engage in meaningful conversations. The challenge lies in navigating these spaces while remaining authentic and mindful to others and yourself.
